(Trying) 2 Fix Undertale's Biggest Plothole

During that time when working on the game's opening sequence animatic, she uhhhh, made a little mistake only Toby took note of. The player character has two stripes on its shirt, but she had drawn three stripes instead, and rather than Toby asking to correct that, as is a very Toby Fox thing to do, decided to keep it and make an entire other character. While the original opening of the game was intended to feature our player character falling into the underworld, and when you start the game, that's you right there after falling! But...

Despite the fact it feels as if Toby just didn't care when creating the other Character with 3 stripes, the opening still feels like it was made for the Player to be in-place, not him. This creates an odd time-line break in a way, as it feels like he had made much of the game in mind when that happened, but taking it away also makes no sense. What the hell?

RetroDark says that the game takes place a whole century after the opening, but... really? I mean, sure, these monsters could probably live for longer than us, but... It just seems... Unlikely. Well... What are we left with now?
